Life As A Trainer/Coach/ Martial Arts Instructor(the blessing)
Just a little motivational thought today for those of us who live this hard but blessed life. Also for those thinking about getting in to it. It’s not about the money baby! I’ve been blessed to fight for a living early on but that isn’t always great financially either. I’ve done well with pr and do well training but it’s not going to make you a billionaire. It is going to bless you!
Through full contact karate pro fights, Muay Thai pro fights and later sport karate the love of it drives. The love of training, pushing and doing better. That love cascades over into teaching. Training pros is great. What is better is seeing people get better. To know your living is about helping people change their lives and become better. Imparting knowledge while imparting bruises! That is the gift and blessing we get as trainers. Whether you were a competitor or just teach, we are brothers. We are blessed to do this and have it be our life. Sometimes pushing through the aches and pains of this life, we live a life many dream of. Sweating and working out for a living. Having people look up to you. NEVER FORGET that!!! Enjoy the ride. Enjoy the lifestyle. Now go train!
Adjust Your Attitude And Set Sail For Success
This will truly be one of the shortest blog posts I ever write. Similar to when I give a quick pump speech to my fighters or marketing employees. Very short, but very important! In their case if they don’t listen it means getting pushed around the ring ( or not working for the company for the non fighters lol). Pay attention!!!
You control your attitude for the most part. Yes people do things that effect you, but you choose to stay in the state you are in. Deciding to stay angry, negative or have no passion for what you do is a choice. Unsuccessful people view it as bad things happen. Successful people view it as a choice and make the appropriate cha
So in this super short post, understand that you can make a difference. Understand that you can be successful. Change your attitude. Don’t let jerks hold you hostage. I’ve been there. I did it. I should not have!
Find your motivation. Decide what you want in life. Head that way. Is it easy? Nope!!! Can you do it ? Oh yeah!!!!!!! If you need personal coaching or help with your marketing/vision/promotion then email tompkinscontent@gmail.com and also follow twitter for @combatsportlife & @tompkinscontent
Drilling for Precision Under Pressure (Exhaustion)
Besides teaching class and training fighters, I keep a personal training routine every day. It’s how at my age I can still get in the ring with these guys. Plus it keeps me active, in shape and I love it. One thing I always do(and push my fighters with in training ) is drilling precision at the end after I’m exhausted. Not that you don’t always work to be precise, but forcing yourself to think and target at that time is harder. Its a great help in the late stages of a fight.
Get a great deal on a Century Wavemaster
After I’ve worked the heavy bag, pads and long live rounds of footwork this is where I go. I switch to my lighter wave master bag. First I slow down a bit but constantly striking. If I miss the mark or my form hinks up, I add reps. The mental and physical fatigue make this hard(mental because your starving for air, more on this in another article). That is why its important. The same thing happens in a fight. You are tired at the end. You are fatigued. This is when precise striking helps when. It always helps win, but if you can keep your head and not lose your technique, it gives you a great edge at the end.
Even if you don’t fight, try adding this to your training routine. The clarity of mind, and crispness of technique you gain will amaze you. It’s also a great add for the fitness portion. Always pushing. Always gaining. In another article I will discuss this further as well as a couple of coaching tricks I use with students and fighters that help in this area.
