Training Gives You A Positive Mental And Physical State (find something you want to try today!)

Posted on

Life can be tough. It often is. Job, financial and relationship stress can be a killer. When that happens and you don’t have a release and a fighting/coping system that you use, things are going to go south fast. Add in health problems that crop up and the stress will make health worse!  It will make it all worse!! What do you do? Is there something that helps? Yep, at least for me and you have nothing to lose trying it. Before we go on, mine is martial arts but training at any activity helps. While I hope yours becomes martial arts ( join Team Transcend Today!!! Lol) anything you get a physical/ mental benefit from training at is good.

When you work at building skill, you also build outlets for stress. You build mental and physical strength through doing so. Besides the obvious health benefits of being in better shape, the overall health benefit is well being. Mind and body. You handle things better because you’ve put yourself through things. You handle things better because your trainer has put you through things. That gives you an advantage. It gives you a strength others do not possess!!!!!  What more can I say. It makes a huge difference in your life!  Get on it now. Change your level of success. Change your health. Change your enjoyment of life.

If you want to make the change today, find something you want to train at. An activity you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t wait. Start now. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here ( story in earlier posts). Get going. If you need personal coaching/ motivation I have a great inexpensive program for that. I also now have a Team Transcend video version to help you. It’s a daily personal training and coaching system. In no way is it like being in my dojo or other good ones but it gets you started. Toward confidence. Toward health. Also inexpensive. A Quick Review Of Los Zarapes In Mahomet ( yep right here)

Posted on Updated on

Well, over the 23 years since I moved to this little town this location has had a ton of restaurants in it. Mostly family style diners. The first one I loved. Great salad bar and a cool view out over the highway in its back room. The ones after it were terrible until Los moved there. Now it’s a regular stop for my wife And I.  It’s a quick little vacation for the evening. Kitschy cheese master decor with classic Mexican dishes. Its just a cool break and doesn’t feel like the zillion Mex places in the area.

image

I’ll make this part quick and easy to let the pictures do the talking. That always seems to be better, probably a statement about my writing!!!  I love their salsa.  We both do. We slow down on Friday night getting there. Grab a beer for me and a margarita for her. Relax and go over the menu while enjoying chips and salsa!  I most often get the chicken flautas and she gets the burrito deluxe or some version of that. Both awesome. This time we both got combination dinners. We each had some mix of burrito and enchilada with rice and beans. Very good. Classically done. Tons of food!!!  That said, I prefer the chicken. The ground beef is a tad salty for me. She said it was perfect so it’s obviously a personal taste thing. In any case it was all over good!  Take a look at a the pics including some menu snaps and we will talk after the jump.

A Quick Review Of Benchmark Bourbon .

Posted on Updated on

In the interest of being hip, cool and timely I thought oh wait!!! Who am I kidding??? I’ll never be any of those things lol. In the interest of having fun .(and I trace family history to Kentucky a bit) I’m going to review this Bourbon. Full disclosure: I love bourbon and am familiar with a great many of them. Secondary full disclosure: I drink eat and travel and sort of write about it. I’m a fighter, my review writing will be suspect lol.

image

image

This is a bourbon I became familiar with about two years ago. In our local Binny’s I was looking around. Out of the corner f my eye I saw this was made at Buffalo Trace. Buff is my fave period. No question!!!  This bottle was $10. OK just had to give it a shot. Two years later I still always keep it around. To me it’s slightly sweeter than Buffalo but not too sweet. I’m not into sweet so thats a good thing. Classic earthy and aromatic but not with ugly floral or too much peat. If you’re a peat freak ( more Scotch) this isn’t you. I’m not huge on mixing bourbon if it’s good but my wife won’t drink it straight. Hence I have discovered it does do very well with diet COLA. A pool drink for us regularly.

For $10 give it a try. It’s become a staple of my bar at home. A truly pleasant surprise. If you’d like to work with us as a brand ambassador or social ads email me today. tompkinscontent@gmail.com & follow @combatsportlife on Twitter.

Are You Motivated As An Instructor Or Trainer For The Right Reasons? Your Success Depends On it!

Posted on Updated on

The Title might make you think it’s about monetary success. Nope. Personal, monetary and effect on humanity. All of those are metrics and sometimes they are combined. Time to understand why you do what you do. It doesn’t matter what you are training people to do. I’ll aim what I write at martial arts/Muay Thai/mma trainers as I spent decades in that world ( still there ) but ive also trained personnel in forex trading and social media marketing. The answers and reasons are similar.
image

As an old po fighter I live working with the upcoming animals and pros. It is who I was and it pays  well. Wanna know a secret?  The free class I teach motivates me. These kids often don’t have much. Sometimes that night working with us is the only time anybody spent time with them that day. That’s what motivates me. Handing down knowledge. Helping them get better. Helping them be confident. It’s true throughout my classes and students. That class motivates m to do well as a trainer so I can keep teaching that group for free. It boils down to making sure I have knowledge to hand down. At each level. If my seminars didn’t help pros and solid dojo’s, it wouldn’t work. If my promo work for companies was bad???!!!  I get to travel to teach people at seminars and promote while I’m there as well. If I didn’t have something worth handing down, the chain is broken and the money doesn’t matter. The money would not come in. Get motivated. Know what motivates you, then build your program/product. Deals on Gear We Use

It’s the same teaching people to trade forex or teaching people about social media marketing. If you don’t have good legitimate information to teach them, you’ll crash and burn!!!!  You have to enjoy teaching and training whether it’s Muay Thai/ mma/ karate or social media marketing. If a guy pays you to teach him to trade forex, you need to actually know what you are doing. Otherwise your just another scammer headed for a bad end. Deals on Gear We Use

A Road Trip To The Chicago Suburbs To Judge Martial Arts ( with stops at IKEA,Portillos,Mago Cantina)

Posted on Updated on

Sometimes my favorite trips are the simple ones to judge sport martial arts tournaments. Not big fights, not national tourneys and not big PR trips. I live all those, but sometimes just having fun in short ones with little or no pressure is the best.  That was this weekend. My wife and I judged at a small but great tournament that was a fundraiser for wounded veterans up in the Chicago suburbs. Part of the way we drove two lane through the country on 47 and across old rte 66. I’ll do another piece about that area but here is a quick pick of tiny old school trailer selling coffee in a small town. Heck it might end up being its own story some Day. More about the trip after the jump.

image

The trailer sits in Forest IL along 47 which is about half way between my place and the burbs. It was closed but I’ll be making a trip just for it. OK, on to the real trip. The tournament was well run ( with my help of course, jk lol) so it went quickly. That left us plenty of time to wander around. Shopping, drinks and appetizers and dinner. First a few pics from the tournament including one of me with a guy I used to fight years ago. Good friends but we had some battles lol. It was his tourney.

After we left the tournament our first stop was IKEA in Bolingbrook. We love Ikea, and have bout lots of things there especially furniture for our kids. It’s just a cool place to walk around and get design ideas.

After that we did a little shopping at The Promenade Bolingbrook. It’s a cool mall but not the enclosed kind. Open walking environment with lots of restaurants and bars with great outdoor seating. My wife insisted that we were going to Portillo’s for dinner( an addiction!)  but we decided to grab drinks at Mago Grill and Cantina. Great selection of sauces with our chips and salsa. We absolutely will return here for dinner and a full review. I had a couple great beers from Two Brothers brewing ( one of my faves & always great. ). Sandy had a piña colada mojito. She loves mojitos but hadn’t had one like that. Quite good with lots of fresh lime!  Again we will be back! Check some pictures from Promenade and Mago.

No matter how many times or often we are in the Chicago area ( which is often) we makes lots of trips to Portillo’s!  We have for decades. Great Italian beef, burgers and dogs. Always great food and such a cool look. They all have a slightly different kitsch to them depending on size. Great prices and just a fun place. One of my absolute favorite places on the planet. Tried other stuff but I almost always get the Big beef with spicy giardinera and fries. Can’t beat it. Huge and delicious!  Take a look at what the one in Bolingbrook looks like, and part of my sandwich.  I was hungry and forgot to take pictures!  I’m a fighter that writes a little lol.

Im blessed to go all over and see all kinds of things, but a weekend like this close to home is awesome. Martial arts, drinks and food!  The best. Check these places out. And hit this area if you get a chance. Warrenville, Naperville and Bolingbrook are all close together. Great food and shopping.
